MEDIA ALERT: Journeys Partners with Can'd Aid to Build 300 Bikes for Underserved Youth in Nashville

WHAT: On Dec. 14, Journeys employees from Nashville will partner with nationally recognized nonprofit Can’d Aid to build 300 bikes to be gifted to underserved youth at Tusculum Elementary, Fall-Hamilton Elementary, and Youth Villages.

Professional mountain biker, Jeff Lenosky, will be attending a surprise donation event at Tusculum Elementary on the following day, Dec. 15. He will showcase a few bike skills and help students with basic biking instruction as the first graders receive their hand-built bikes and helmets.

This event is a part of a national partnership between Journeys and Can’d Aid this year, where Journeys hosted more than 70 regional events and employees donated 1,460 hours of employee volunteer time, 73 art kits and 1,560 skateboards to youth nationwide.

  • Donation (Tusculum Elementary): Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 12:30 p.m.

WHERE:

WHY: Children average 7 hours of screen time per day and only 1 in 5 gets the daily recommended 30 minutes of active play a day. Through its Treads + Trails program, Can’d Aid helps combat these troubling statistics. Can’d Aid has donated more than 2,000 bikes and skateboards nationally to students in the past year. At a time when our nation’s youth are experiencing extreme levels of anxiety, depression and mental health issues, Can’d Aid’s programs provide healthy and active outlets for underserved and at-risk children across the country.
